New Delhi, April 16: Bhattis are India’s first-generation entrepreneurs and today they are making their mark on Indian politics.
In a bid to prove that they can do something in India’s business world, a group of Bhattistans have been appointed to be the country’s new prime minister, a move that has sparked a backlash from some business leaders and their Indian counterparts.
They have a unique job – to write their own history.
Bhatt’s appointment was announced by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday and has set off a scramble to fill the role of the countrys youngest chief minister.
Bhatis are expected to take over in September from the current prime minister.
The position is not a new one for Bhatt, who is not the only son of a politician who has had the privilege of holding the post.
The position was given to his elder brother Shivaji in 1991.
He is now in his mid-50s, a fact which his family does not seem to mind.
He does not plan to quit his post anytime soon.
Bhattis, who were born in the city of Kolkata, began his career in retail.
A student of the Indian Institute of Management, he joined the Indian National Stock Exchange (INSE) in 1989 and worked his way up through the ranks.
Bhati, who has served as the head of the state-run bank, the Indian Commercial Bank, has long been seen as a populist.
He has said that he wants to revive the economy and that his main ambition is to become the next chief minister of Maharashtra, the second largest state in India.
His rise to prominence is rooted in his willingness to take risks.
He was appointed the state’s first ever chief minister in 2008 after a three-year term as governor.
BH had to deal with an economy in turmoil following the death of his mother in 2012 and the resignation of former governor Rajiv Kumar Bhatt.
He took over as governor for a five-year period in 2014.BH’s rise to power was marked by the country s largest corruption probe in decades.
In his second term, he made a bid for the presidency but was defeated by then Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
Bhans father, Shivaji, who died in 1992, was a member of the Congress Party.
Bho was also a member when he was governor of Maharashtra in 2004.
The party is also expected to support Bhatt in his bid for prime minister after Bhatt said he was interested in the post after the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government’s defeat in the general elections.
The appointment of Bhati was met with derision from some quarters.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has been leading the charge in the country against Bhat, called it a ‘coup’ in a statement on Tuesday.
A group of businessmen from the state, including Bhatt himself, have been making an appeal for the Bhatts to be appointed as prime minister’s chief secretary.
The group, including a former state chief minister, has been lobbying for Bhat to take up the post, which was created in 2017 to be a permanent cabinet post.
They also want him to run for a third term in the next election.
Bhans popularity has been on the rise in the past few months and his party has already said it will contest the 2019 general elections in Maharashtra.
Battistans success has been largely down to his business acumen and the BJP is hoping to win over business voters to its cause.
Bhopal, which is in northern India, has witnessed a boom in the last few years.
India has seen an increase in the number of industrialised cities like Bhopal and Ahmedabad.
The BJP has also been trying to woo businessmen to its party in the state.
In September, the party announced the formation of a special committee to woo business leaders to its side in the upcoming assembly elections.
The BJP has promised to create at least 100,000 jobs in Bhopals factories and towns.
